20-Year-Old Five Months Pregnant Woman Burnt Alive for Dowry.

A 20-year-old five months pregnant woman was allegedly burnt alive by her husband and his parents for dowry in Pilibhit district's Kareli village on Friday night. In his police complaint, Anuj Singh, the victim's brother, said that his sister Poonam Singh was routinely tortured by her husband and in-laws.

The grieving brother said that on Thursday he received a distress call from his sister. On Friday, one of their neighbours, Ranjit Singh, called me up and told me that my sister was burnt to death. I couldn’t believe my ears. I rushed to her house, which is not too far from our village, and found her charred body there. Sanju and his parents were missing,” added Anuj.

Meanwhile, SHO of Bilsanda police station, Manoj Kumar Tyagi, told TOI that an FIR was lodged against Sanju Singh, his father Ajay Pal Singh and mother Nanhi Devi under IPC sections 498 A (husband or his relatives subjecting a woman to cruelty), 304 B (death of a woman caused by burns or bodily injury), apart from sections 3&4 of Dowry Prohibition Act.
