SC Blasts Lower Court for Delivering Order Through WhatsApp.
A trial court in Jharkhand delivered an order to two accused over a WhatsApp call. The bizarre incident has surfaced from Hazaribagh, in a case involving former Jharkhand minister Yogendra Sao and his wife Nirmala Devi, who is accused in a 2016 rioting case.
While the duo was granted bail in the case last year by the top court, it had imposed a condition that they shall stay in Bhopal and not enter Jharkhand except for attending the court proceedings. But according to the two accused, in April this year, the court in Hazaribagh framed charges against them through a 'WhatsApp' call despite they raising objections to it.
After being informed about it by the two accused, the Supreme Court has blasted the lower court's action. "What is happening in Jharkhand. This process cannot be allowed, and we cannot allow the administration of justice to be brought into disrepute. We are here on the way of the trial being conducted through WhatsApp. This can not be done. What kind of a trial is this? Is this a kind of joke?" the bench comprising Justices S A Bobde and L N Rao asked the counsel appearing for Jharkhand.
